Winfield Community Theatre will present Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on August 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 7:30pm and a matinee August 7 at 2:00pm.
Come join us as we venture to England and Vulgaria with the famous magical flying car! Caractacus Potts and his family; Grandpa Potts, Jeremy and Jemima all have many adventures as Caractacus rebuilds Chitty, and Chitty comes to life!
Grandpa is a bit eccentric but loveable kindhearted as he stumbles through life. Mr Potts is happily raising his two sweet children along with Grandpa’s loving help.
The children find Chitty in an old junk yard and car parts garage. They love her at first site and enjoy many hours of playing with the old race car. When a Scrap Metal collector wants to melt her down to just a metal cube, the kids beg for their Dad to buy it first.
Mr Potts the ever non successful inventor finds a way with his crazy inventions to buy Chitty after the local candy maker turns him down for his Toot Sweet candy that sounds like a whistle. Truly Scrumptious, the candy maker’s daughter, meets the little family by accident and soon sparks are flying with Mr. Potts. The children love her immediately.
Their adventures include 2 nutty Spies from Vulgaria, a hair cutting machine, Grandpa’s stories of World War I. When they chase after Grandpa who has been kidnapped by the Vulgarian Spies who are after Chitty, they meet many strange people in Vulgaria. They meet a gentle toymaker, an evil child catcher, the Baroness and Baron who hate children, and lost children who have been hidden by the evil Child Catcher. With Chitty’s help, they will try to make everything come out happy in the ending.
This show is for the whole family. Kids will love Chitty, and the lost children and their fight for freedom. Adults will enjoy the nutty spies, the selfish Baron and Baroness, Grandpa’s stories and the humor of it all. And don’t forget Chitty Chitty Bang Bang herself…she’s fantasmagorical!
